ABOUT THE FOUNDERS

The story of Sky Villas Resort is a story about two friends, Ed Menefee and David Lopez*, and David's longing to return to and to support his wife and their three daughters in Guatemala. Ed and David have been best friends since Ed first came to Guatemala more than 15 years ago. They have worked together on ventures before including a guesthouse named Casa Sky in 2015-2016 in Antigua, Guatemala.

In order to provide for his family, David risked his life to make it to California and has been working hard as a day laborer at jobs ranging from construction to painting to gardening, but he has also experienced setbacks including unemployment and even wage theft. He hopes it will all be worth the sacrifice, but he is struggling to get ahead, and his daughters are growing up quicker with every passing year.

With your support of the Indiegogo fundraising campaign, Ed would like to help bring David home to his family so that together they can work together again and bring to life Sky Villas Resort. We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you soon at Sky Villas Resort.

*David's real name has not been used as he is an undocumented immigrant.

ABOUT OUR INDIEGOGO

CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN

Please visit our historic Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign where you can make a donation and/or be among our first backers to pre-book a discounted stay at Sky Villas Resort. While other hotels have successfully come to life thanks to Indiegogo crowdfunding campaigns, our campaign is the first hotel campaign to be led by an undocumented immigrant. It is also the first campaign that seeks to launch a worker-owned hotel. Lastly, if this campaign is successful then David and many others will be able to benefit from proceeds of sustainable tourism in their beautiful country. In David's case, he will be able to return to his wife and three daughters.
